Swelling Foot

Swelling Foot
Swelling is common in pregnancy. It is caused by additional blood and fluid to meet the needs of the developing baby. Also, your growing uterus puts pressure on your veins, which impairs return of blood to your heart. This can lead to swelling in the legs, ankles and feet.

How to Reduce Swelling foot:

  1. Try not to cross your legs.
  2. Avoid standing for long periods.
  3. Rest with your feet elevated.
  4. Sleep on your side. Preferably left lateral position.
  5. Wear compression stockings.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes, avoiding high heels if possible.
  7. Avoid clothes that are tight around your wrists or ankles.
  8. Drink water, which helps flush the body and reduce water retention.
  9. Stand or walk in the pool.
  10. Minimize sodium (salt) intake.
